How to Use
Cut base into small cubes. Melt in a microwave (30-second bursts) or double boiler. Once melted, cool slightly to 60–65°C before adding fragrance, colour, or additives (up to 2–3% by weight). Pour into moulds and allow to set at room temperature. Unmould after 1–2 hours. Wrap in shrink wrap immediately to prevent sweating.

A: The menthol oil provides a noticeable, refreshing cooling effect — similar to a mild mint soap. It is pleasant for most skin types and especially popular in summer or post-workout use. If you want a stronger cooling effect, you can add up to 0.5% additional cosmetic-grade menthol crystals after melting.
Q: Is this base suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?
A: Yes — aloe vera juice and mild plant-derived surfactants make it well-tolerated by sensitive skin. However, menthol can occasionally sensitise very reactive skin. For customers with known fragrance sensitivities, we recommend a patch test before use.
Q: Can I use this base for a cooling scalp or shampoo bar?
A: Yes. The menthol and aloe vera combination works well for scalp-stimulating shampoo bars, particularly for oily scalps or those with dandruff. Keep fragrance additions below 1% for scalp applications.

A: Yes. Tea tree essential oil at 0.5–1% pairs excellently with the basil and menthol already in the base. Neem oil at 0.5% adds further antibacterial benefit but will impart a slight earthy odour.

Q: Does the menthol scent fade over time in finished soap bars?
A: Menthol is relatively volatile. To preserve the cooling sensation, wrap finished bars tightly in shrink wrap immediately after setting and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
