Lotionpro/Glyceryl Stearate & PEG 100 Stearate/Arlacel 165 Substitute
INCI: Glyceryl Stearate & PEG 100 Stearate
Lotionpro is a self-emulsifying, acid-stable emulsifier blend which includes glyceryl stearate and polyoxyethylene stearate (PEG-100 stearate). It forms highly stable oil-in-water emulsions with excellent appearance and feel. It is often used with cetearyl alcohol or other fatty alcohols (as thickeners) in formulations.
While some self-emulsifiers (like Emulsifying Wax NF) can thicken a lotion made without butters, fatty acid or alcohol waxes, or water phase thickeners like xanthan gum, Lotionpro will not. The job of an emulsifier is to marry oil in water in a stable mixture and this Lotionpro does very well. Thickening your formulation to the consistency you want is done through the use of oil and water phase thickeners, as mentioned above. Lotionpro can create lotions that are lighter and fluffier than those made with Emulsifying Wax NF, with a less waxy feel, and it is also able to create buttery formulations when combined with fatty alcohols and water-phase thickeners (see our Body Butter Bliss formulation linked on the Formulary tab).
