Ethylene Brassylate

DESCRIPTION — Ethylene Brassylate (also known as Musk T or Astrotone, CAS 105-95-3) is one of the most widely used macrocyclic musks in modern perfumery. First developed as a non-animal alternative to natural deer musk, it is prized by formulators for its clean, elegant musk character, excellent stability, and exceptional tenacity as a fixative — with a diffusion that can last well over 100 hours on a blotter.

Fragrance Profile
A soft, sweet, powdery musk with subtle floral and faint fruity-vanilla nuances, rounded out by gentle woody and spicy undertones. The overall impression is warm, clean, and diffusive without being heavy — giving compositions a velvety background “skin scent” quality rather than an overpowering animalic note.

Appearance & Handling
Clear, colourless to pale yellow oily liquid. Soluble in oil and alcohol. Considered one of the more skin-safe musks with low sensitisation risk, making it suitable for leave-on products such as perfumes and lotions. Store in a tightly closed container, away from direct sunlight and heat.

Uses & Applications

• Core musk base and fixative in fine fragrance — floral, oriental, and woody-musk accords
• Widely used in soaps, detergents, shampoos, body washes, and lotions for its stability in soap and detergent bases
• Blends well with other musks (such as Galaxolide) to build layered, long-lasting musk bases

Recommended Usage Level: commonly used at 1–10% in fine fragrance concentrates; IFRA broadly permits use up to 4.0% of the total fragrance compound in fine fragrance categories — always check the latest IFRA amendment and assess against your own formulation.
