Borax decahydrate is a naturally occurring chemical that is commonly used in detergents and cleaning products. Borax, which was found in Tibet, occurs naturally in the deposits of dry lake beds where seasonal evaporation forms a layer of clay and natural salts.

  • Because of its alkalinity, it can be employed as a pH buffering agent to neutralise acids.
  • Its anti-fungal characteristics make it effective in the treatment of some skin disorders, and it is also used in pest management.
  • Borax is used as a laundry detergent booster, cleanser, preservative, fungicide, pesticide, herbicide, disinfectant, and desiccant, among other things.
  • Borax has several industrial applications, including usage as a flux to remove unwanted metal oxides and in flame retardants.


  • It works by protecting your DIY formulation from the harmful effects of bacteria, viruses, and fungus.

  • It is recommended that it should be used at a concentration of 1-5%.
  • It is soluble in water but is insoluble in oil. 
  • When dissolved in water it gives a ph of around 9 


  • Prepare the water and oil phases of your formulation separately.
  • Heat both of them using a double boiler.
  • Combine the two phases.
  • Add our borax decahydrate during the cooling phase.
  • Mix it properly using a mini-mixture.
