ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS-
- Products containing calcium chloride dihydrate are used as a plant nutrient in pre-harvest treatments of crop leaves, fruits, and vegetables.
- It is applied to plants and developing fruit to postpone ageing, prevent post-harvest decay, increase firmness, and limit the development of physiological problems.
- It is used in post-harvest treatments for fruits and vegetables to help retain freshness, firmness, and to prevent certain illnesses and decay.
- It helps minimise surface crusting in finer soils that are prone to crusting due to rainfall or irrigation, hence keeping more stable aggregates.
- Calcium chloride application can also improve nutritional value by boosting calcium content.
- After harvesting, fruits and vegetables are frequently immersed in calcium chloride to improve firmness and post-harvest shelf life.
HOW IT WORKS-
- It works by providing a variety of pore sizes to give roots vital oxygen because of improved aeration and root penetration, allowing plants to absorb more nutrients and water for better growth.
- It works by enhancing the activity of soil organisms that decompose organic debris and dead plant matter to increase the binding capability of soil particles, which stabilises the soil structure.
TIME OF APPLICATION-
- It can be spread at any time of the year.
- Just one application is required per year to increase the fertility of the soil.
RECOMMENDED USAGE-
- For mixing, the recommended usage is 1 to 2%.
- For powder application, 10-15 kg/acre.
